Wolfmother
So I ventured out into the cold night air to see Wolfmothers sold out show at the river stage last night. We arrived just in time to get a drink and head towards the stage as it started. Overall it was not too much unlike listening to the album, except they did the rock star thing on stage, with what seemed like 10000 people there paying $50 each I expected to see some smashed Les Paul guitar but we were not so lucky and the band was quite well behaved.
So you could say rocks not dead but then if they were true rockers they would have smashed their instruments and sworn more. Last comparible show I saw was At The Drive In at the Metro in Sydney, they smashed a guitar or two at a small venue $35 gig but Wolfmother couldn’t. Someone needs to teach the kids these days how to rock out.
It was overall a very good gig, don’t get me wrong.
On the way out we dropped into the Belgian beer garden, Jade Buddah, I was denied entry into the GPO because I didn’t have soggy sandshoes on (it looked a bit empty and full of sappy sandshoe wearing people) so we wandered a bit further down the hill to the Fringe bar, which unsurprisingly was packed with cool people having a good time. I piked earlier than the others at 3am, I tried to maintain a conversation with a girl on ectasy rubbing her breasts over me as she talked senseless stuff but the alcohol had won and I was on the next beer scooter home.
Some interesting Wolfmother gig statistics.
$8 a can of cougar and cola is a 480% markup.
90% of people wore black at Wolfmother.
0 guitars were injured.
